The President’s Place…

This issue of the Trumpet finds me in a pensive and penitential mood.

On the one hand I sit watching the physical world come to life again and

witness rebirth. Some of the daffodils open in an hour or two in very cool

temperatures. All they need is a short period of the suns’ warmth. This is

miraculous.

Spiritually I am aware of the downwards spiral of the season of Lent. My

sin is ever before me; God and I converse hourly on the resentments I

continue to hold. The redeeming feature of the season for each of us is the

sure and certain knowledge of the love of Christ and the miracle of His

resurrection.

Emotionally, I am raw from a recent parish tragedy. The wild grief,

anger and faith of the family, the constant support of our priests and other

ministers, the immediate outpouring of help and love from the parish and

other friends all stand as testaments to the miracle that is the community of

faith as the body of Christ. As a liturgical people we are in the midst of the

season of Lent, a time of awareness and remembrance of what life could

look and feel like without Christ in our midst. Christ is in our midst

however, even deep into Lent. Raise your head and look into the first face

you see.

At your service for His sake,

Leslee
